Here’s what I saw sometime ago about the wolves. They’re not actually in the scenes, they are superimposed. They used real wolves so it wasn’t feasible for them to interact with the actors. I think it’s mostly a technical issue. A direwolf is substantially larger than a real wolf, so every shot with Ghost is expensive CGI and it’s tricky to make any interaction look real and natural. Jon is a great owner, he’s letting Ghost go somewhere where he’ll be happy and much safer than in the south. No one cared The direwolves gradually became such minor characters. Maybe at the cost of the dragons being so involved or other visual goods, but still. Even Shaggydog was offed off-screen. Nymeria came back for a 2 minute cameo. Grey Wind at least killed a few hounds and ripped a guys arm off before he died in the books, but isn’t even given that in the show.
At least when you watch the shows back they have some good on screen time seasons 1-3 (and Ghost helping at the Battle on the Wall)
