I understand what you’re saying but bravery is not always what the birth mother is doing. Sometimes they just want to pick and choose which child they will keep. Even if they keep some they don’t always raise them. 4 of my siblings were raised by our maternal grandmother and the rest of us were given up or died after birth. I have found 7 living siblings, 2 deceased, searching for 2 more. I am also an adoptee and my birth mom had to give me and my two younger brothers up because she was just simply too young and immature to care for us the way she should have. Floral my favorite teacher calls me mom shirt Don’t assume that all parents who give their kids up do it because they want to. Sometimes it’s because they just simply can’t. of course the last part wasn’t for me because I would never give my kids up for adoption.
As an adoptee and as someone who’s spent years counseling adoptees, what I will tell you is for anyone considering adoption, you should be adopted yourself or have a support system in place for that child’s journey. Everyone advocates for the birth parents but no one advocates for adoptees. The truth is there are very few adoption stories that aren’t wrapped up in pain and deep seeded anxiety. Spend time in adoptee support groups, learn about the psycological distresses of adoptees, read stories of adoptees rather than always praising the birth parents for their selfless act of bravery and you might have a better understanding of the entire process and everyone involved in that type of journey.
