fungus growing out of the lungs.. and the families have such hope and such unrealistic expectations through no fault of their own- the Doc said it would be O.K. Hope is an amazing thing. But so is honesty. our firstborn passed away when he was 15 months old (not from cancer but from complications in the ER following a seizure). Grandpa knows everything if he doesn’t know shirt as parents we have enough grief to carry without being told that our son would have lived if only we had a more positive attitude (or prayed harder, or hoped harder).

thank you for speaking up to shut down these platitudes that might make the rest of the world feel better about the suffering or death of a child, but only cause grieving families more pain. The attitude isn’t about living or dying in the long run, it is quality of life. We’ve been doing this cancer dance off and on for 6 years and we’d have been some miserable humans with seriously dysfunctional children if we didn’t treat sedations, surgeries, MRIs, and radiation with the same matter-of-fact attitude as anything else kids don’t like to do
