It’s a different sense, but my mum completely lost her hearing in less than a year when I was a year old. It’s been a very long road for her, but with therapy and a lot of encouragement, she’s finding some empowerment. She’s found some connection in the Deaf community too. I hope your mother can find some peace and make some connections with people who know what she’s going through. Hearing another blind person thrive could make her more confident. My husband started slowly loosing his sight 25 years ago. It’s an up and down thing but she needs professional help.
There is no other way to go. My husband went to a psychiatrist, he takes anti depressants and nerve pills. This is not something that goes away. There are also groups she can join depending on where you are in the country. My husband runs a nonprofit specialty for the blind by the blind. He also goes to homes and talks with the person who is loosing or has lost their sight. Help is out there and she will get better but she has to want to do it. Again, depending on where you are, the state will come in and help set up the house. There should be a blind school as well that she can go to to learn how to function as a blind person. Sorry for rambling, I have been down this road with a loved one.
