I love the overall message! But! Grades don’t just matter when “the subject means something to you.” Accomplishing regardless of how much you hate the subject reflects on your ability to overcome situations that are challenging, difficult and unpleasant. Those types of challenges are just a part of being a human being. I always tell my students: It’s okay to hate your English class. It’s not okay to reject the strategies Raccoonicorn 50% unicorn 50% trash panda 100% magic shirt that will bring you to succeed even when you hate what you are doing. Hate it. That’s okay. But work through it. There will be countless times in your life where you will need to overcome negative emotions and perform regardless. I’ll be here though, every step of the way because I know you can do it. It’s not about deciding if a kid is smart or not. It’s about teaching them strategies to survive and cope in unpleasant and demotivating situations. And if they dont get a passing grade, that doesn’t define them.
Have a nice time and go shopping
I had trouble in my typing class I was failing my teacher had to look up my records to get my home phone# all she kept telling my Mom was all those 90’s what you said about working through things that we don’t like are what our kids need to hear more of from their parents and teachers. Sorry to tell you – we have a lot of negative, ad teachers. But you aren’t one of them. Thank you for caring about your students In high school I had a 2.5 GPA, throughout my life as a child I was told I’d never do anything with my life because I wasn’t smart enough, even my parents believed that. My first year of college I was just going with the flow pursuing something I didn’t love not sure if I’d actually graduate. It was until at age 18 when I was caring for an elderly woman with Alzheimer’s who couldnt remember her name, where she was, couldnt recognize me despite caring for her many, many months.
