It’s about addressing the difference in how we treat European accents with higher deference than non-European one. Just look at my IC your shit ain’t gonna work shirt If you look down on someone for struggling to speak a second language, you’re an idiot because you’re looking down on someone for knowing one more language than you do.
Just look at my IC your shit ain’t gonna work shirt
The original post isn’t even about customs, but since you brought it up, why should someone have to pick up our customs? If an immigrant doesn’t want to celebrate Thanksgiving or get hype for the Super Bowl or eat food that isn’t “American” (whatever that means in a country where most of our cuisine originally came from somewhere else), what business is it of yours? the Language of America is American English. As for the original post, it’s crying racism. Just look at my IC your shit ain’t gonna work shirt And no one has to celebrate American holidays. But don’t come to my country and make demands that we shouldn’t. Assimilate. Period. Otherwise, why the hell are you here? Who is demanding that you shouldn’t? No one’s saying you can’t celebrate Christmas or go to a baseball game or have a hot dog.
Nothing in this post is saying that Americans should stop practicing our customs. And, tell me this, WHY is English the language of America? What makes it so? And about the original post, why is it “crying racism?” If we treat Vietnamese or Hindi or whatever else accents as less than European ones, how is that not racist? and I don’t expect perfect English. My family were immigrants. They learned English and they assimilated. I have a problem with the cartoon because 1) it singles out America 2) it makes a false statement that “whites” are given a slide. I stand by my statement. I don’t care what color, religion, gender, orientation a person may be. I however expect that if you chose to come to my country and seek citizenship you make every effort to learn the language, culture/traditions, and assimilate. You become an American.
