I have worked in a middle school for years I will never forget the special education kids. They change the world everyday by showing us all how to love life to it’s fullest. One day we had a visiting intern studying to be a principal… A student from the special education class was not having a good day she was tired she wanted french fries and had to wait for them to cook some up she got overwhelmed and laid down on the floor. I didnt know my son had DS till he was born. I was offered test half way through my pregnacy but declined and said I would take what ever God gave us and didn’t believe in abortion. My sons name is Timmy. He is love of our house. Has it been easy NO but I wouldnt tarde him for anything. Watch the video he is just pure love and joy. Everyone needs a Emersyn or Timmy it would teach u so much. I don’t ever wish that a family goes through this but if you do it will be ok. Biggest advice treat them no different then you would with a baby who doesn’t have DS. That is my advice.

Hold him, read to him, sit him on your lap with paper, a pencil, pen and crayons, etc. at the table with older siblings writing, drawing, painting, coloring, doing homework..every day. Count with him. Recite addition and multiplication tables and the alphabet. Write each letter and teach him the sound each letter makes. Put the letters together to make a word. Put words together (on paper) and make a sentence. Point to each
word as you slowly read the sentence. Get preschool workbooks and teach him shapes (star, circle, square), colors, etc.
