What you are talking about is ‘equal’ and what equal ‘treatment’ does do is erase our differences, discriminate against those with different needs and and promote privilege. Sorry I’m late I read past my bedtime shirt Equality aims to promote fairness. ‘Equal’ in the way in which you use the example can only work if everyone has the same needs

Robert was getting confused between ‘equal’ and ‘equality’. Equal is correct in terms of his example he used but that’s not what equality is. equality takes into consideration a group of people’s needs as well as privilege in terms of fairness and level playing fields. So it is indeed an equality issue Can we just iron out this definition of marriage to include two persons under Australian law rather than the insulting statement we get now, that the equality can happen. Sorry I’m late I read past my bedtime shirt Equality of status and legacy, Respect and rights such as pension access and clear NOK recognition. Then We can move on to other important fights to make sure everybody else has the same rights and opportunities I got, just for being straight.
Take it and enjoy it

It’s respect out of love. I’m sorry if it is intolereant to some religious beliefs. But a wise person once said. If you don’t like gay marriage. Don’t get gay married. You’re right, you don’t have extra rights for being straight. Neither do I, I don’t have any extra rights for being straight. Hmmmm, maybe because we’ve already got ALL the rights. We can marry someone we love; we can name them in our wills; they can decide what is best for us when we can’t; we can have an equal partnership in the eyes of …. well, everyone. LGBTIQ folks have none of those rights.
In fact, they have no marriage rights at all. And you know the best part? To give the LGBTIQ community the same rights, the straight community don’t have to give up any rights at all. And then, one day IF you decided you wanted to marry a man, then you could. That’s equality. Where did all these other letters come from? Keeps getting longer. Can we stop labelling people and referring to people as members of groups. We need to start just dealing with people as individuals.
