There’s much to take away from this. I’m 60 years old. I’m very much in tune with reality. But there’s a side of me that is not afraid or embarrassed to exercise the same harmless innocent freedoms that a child does. You know…when you see kids entertaining themselves in their own little world…expressing themselves out loud, unaffected by what the “norms of society” may think…our children are young and innocent and pure…they haven’t been affected by some of the harsh realities out there. When the children in the class made fun of the grandmother, teachers ans parents, if they were aware, should have interceded and taught them to behave differently. Compassion is something that can be taught by adults who are important in the child’s life. As for then reaction to the relationship between the central character and Christina, I think it is sometimes best not to do things publicly in an intolerant world.
