Unfortunately, the most common type of racism is the kind where people dismiss a comment from someone who is being racist because it “doesn’t affect them”. It’s the same for situations where guys dismiss other guy friends’ sexist comments because it doesn’t affect them. They hear other comments, and the only way to stop this sort of racism and sexism (etc) is for people of the same race or sex to stand up and tell the other people to stop it. Just my two cents anyway. I have dear friends who I can’t stand the thought of them hearing the comments I hear, so I will make sure I stand up for them even when they’re not there. Not all people live as borderline racist. I don’t go around calling people n words or generalize them. Am I perfect? Noooo, far from it yet I believe in compassion and try my best to look at things as if it was me. We are all humans.
