My family does this too and it angers me so bad. I’d rather my kids hear a F bomb or GD all day Math is no prob-llama back to school llama shirt than a racial slur. I understand what you are talking about. I know lots of guys what make all kinds of cracks about women but they don’t seem to think that way about the women who they actually know. It’s kind of weird but they aren’t really bad guys and they only disrespect women they don’t really know well. It’s like those women are pretend or something. Math is no prob-llama back to school llama shirt I think it’s from too much TV where you see but don’t feel. I know I know. SO many people swear they’re not racist but this is their behavior. I’ve found that the people saying, shouting, proclaiming from the rooftops that they’re not racist most certainly are so.

This is why “locker room talk”, and excusing it as nothing serious, is so dangerous. The idea that you’re somehow not sexist if you only talk derogatorily about women around other men. Or that you’re somehow not racist if you only speak derogatorily about black people around other white people. This type of closet racism is exactly what we have to search out and find in our own hearts…and point out when someone makes a comment so it doesn’t continue. Once was told by someone that she didn’t like black people…and then when I said “but what about so-in-so (referring to one of our friends)?” and she told me that “so-in-so doesn’t count because he is ‘the whitest black guy ever’.” I stopped talking to her after this.
