Yes As a parent I had the same problem with my youngest daughter. She said to me it was my aspirations and expectations but not hers. She did not finish her BCom degree and has made other choices for herself. It is so hard to balance what they have told us they want to do and we work towards when the make a sudden change I have struggled with this myself as a child and as a parent Although I feel every individual should do what they feel is right and best for themselves, I also believe that it just isn’t realistic to expect that every single person is going to get to find a career path that fulfills their dreams and passions. It’s a means of being financially sound and it funds and financially allows for a person to pursue their passions on their time off from work. My job is not my passion. And I do not live in regret. I live in gratitude that I have a job that pays me well enough to pursue my passions on the weekends and hopefully later in life I will be able to pursue them full time once I’ve retired.

Working hard for a week to live your passion at the weekend may be your idea but not the current generation. Generations are different and people are different. You can’t force your ideas which were relevant to you on the current generation. They won’t work. They will spoil lives and lead to depression, frustration, serious mental issues. I didn’t force anything on anyone, in fact the very first thing I said was that each person should choose what it best for them as I have chosen what is best for me.
