This is one of my footholds in Europe (as is Sagrada Familia). Really hope all is well in Paris; I have spent a lot of time there over the last 30 years. Apologies for politicising a continental landmark catastrophe but here goes… Some people just want to watch the world burn notre-dame de paris shirt I am a proud European, have lived 6 years in Antwerp, but I am English and Welsh heritage and back in the UK for 11 years now so no chance of getting a European citizenship now. I have no religion, but this building has to be saved… I visited it when I was 10, I took my children there in the early 90’s – it is iconic, in the true sense of the word…..so much important history wrapped in that stone cladding…. Many thanks to our friends all over the world. Our city will recover and rebuild because it always does. But in the meantime , it is good to read your kinds words as we are quite shocked. Very sad. When York Minster was devastated by fire in 1984 it was restored to its former glory and it is a glorious and magnificent building again. I know it is sad but take heart out of the ashes Some people just want to watch the world burn notre-dame de paris shirt will come a great cathedral once again. thank you dear friend. I am hopeful that we shall rebuild, but watching the old 12th century charpente where Quasimodo hides in the book by Victor Hugo , disappear forever is heart breaking. Maybe a lesson that nothing lasts forever

Such a loss and a tragedy. Rest assured there are many incredibly skilled craftsmen who still use 12th century building techniques. To look at York Minster and Windsor Castle you wouldn’t know there had been a fire. You are right . I can’t stop crying but I know the world will rally around . It’s not Our Cathedral, it is a symbol of great achievement by Human Kind. It is very moving to see how affected everyone is everywhere. How brave were the firefighters and people who saved so many artefacts etc. And, thankfully, the damage [bad as it is].does not appear to be as bad as it might have been. When something like this happens you feel as though part of you has died.. we sat and attended mass here on our first visit, just sat quietly at the back and observed. It was one of the most beautiful experiences I’ve ever had. Such an awe inspiring building and truly the heart of Paris. This actually makes my heart ache a bit
