I like this. We Americans have in many ways allowed the breakdown of the family by thinking the mother needs to work. I did, but that was for survival. And it’s good to remember we all will be there soon, time goes by quickly. That’s what I keep thinking. The example we set, is what our children of all ages learn. My 88 year old Mother, Mary B. Spencer Clark, is a beautiful example of caring family. She thrives on being included in all our lives. She is unique in that she works just about as hard now as she always did. Sewing, organizing events, driving herself to club and appts. We are there when she needs us, of course. My brother and nephew mow. I take her with me to visit my daughter and family.

This conversation reminds me of the Amish and Mennonite way of building on to a home for subsequent generations. The communal living concept. Much less stress on everyone involved. And there’s the opportunity to continue educating the young parents. I’d do anything for my parents or grandparents. They are always there for me and I will always be there for them. Makes me so frustrated when kids do not help out with their families. Family first. This video was amazing.
I know as a nurse that your father’s condition had to be extremely difficult for you! Alzheimer’s is difficult for some of the nurses at times because most of us are understaffed and overworked. We do it because we grow closer and attached to the residents & patients that we care for. It’s amazing how much we care for our patients even after working at a facility for two weeks. This one lady in the memory care unit never remembered my name but each day I came in, She would compliment me on my earrings. I so happened to have an extra pair at home that I’d never worn. One day I took those extra set of earrings in for her and she lit up like a Christmas tree. This lady was well off and have the means to buy her own, but it was just the fact of giving her some thing that I knew she loved that made all the difference.
