One of the actors who played Star Wars villain Boba Fett has spoken out against Disney’s rumored renaming of the character’s spaceship. For decades, the vehicle has been known as Slave I (“Slave One”), which is instantly recognisable to many fans of the blockbuster sci-fi franchise.
The name of the ship has been changed on current Lego Star Wars products to “Boba Fett’s Starship,” according to Star Wars fan site Jedi News. The modification is being adopted by Disney across all Star Wars assets, according to Lego Star Wars designers Jens Kronvold Frederiksen and Michael Lee Stockwell. Stockwell explained, “We’re no longer calling it Slave I.” “This is the Starship of Boba Fett.”
“Everyone is [dropping the name ‘Slave I,’]” Frederiksen continued. “It’s probably not something that’s been made public, but it’s something that Disney no longer wants us to use.” On his Instagram stories, Daniel Logan, who played a young Boba Fett in Attack of the Clones and The Clone Wars, shared a meme that appeared to mock the name change. Mark Anthony Austin, who played Fett in the 1997 re-release of A New Hope, also took to Twitter to criticize the rumored name change.
