SRT has withdrawn from MotoGP, with a new team set to be announced at Misano

SRT began racing in Moto3 in 2015, progressing to Moto2 by 2018, and finally reaching MotoGP as a Yamaha satellite team in 2019. SRT formed tighter relations with Yamaha than the previous Tech3 squad in terms of works assistance, with factory support for Franco Morbidelli in 2019, Fabio Quartararo in 2020, and Valentino Rossi in 2021.

SRT won six MotoGP races during its tenure, with Franco Morbidelli placing second in the championship in 2020 as the top Yamaha rider. During the Austrian Grand Prix, title sponsor Petronas revealed that it will be leaving the sport at the end of the year, with Motorsport.com reporting that the Moto2 and Moto3 teams would be shut down. SRT has now declared that it will cease to exist in all three classes starting in 2022, with a new company led by team boss Razlan Razali and team director Johan Stigefelt to be introduced during the San Marino Grand Prix weekend. “We have had a great adventure over the last years,” Razali said in a statement. From a humble beginning in 2015, we took a giant step forward in 2018 when we gained admittance to MotoGP’s premier class and formed a MotoGP team from the ground up. “We were on the grid in 2019, and we were on the front row just four races into our debut season.

We were on the podium by the eighth race. We won our first race as a satellite Yamaha MotoGP team in over 20 years in 2020, and we finished second in both the team and rider titles. We raced alongside Valentino Rossi, the Greatest Of All Time, in 2021. This is a fantastic story. Thank you everyone very much.” Interestingly, SRT has not attached team manager Wilco Zeelenberg’s name to the new entity for 2022. The new business that emerges from SRT is expected to be funded by WithU, which will increase its engagement to title sponsorship status. Andrea Dovizioso, a 15-time MotoGP race winner, is expected to finish the 2021 season with SRT in lieu of Morbidelli, who will be promoted to the factory squad to replace Maverick Vinales ahead of a full-time debut in 2022.
