Do come down to any fire station on a saturday morning and see for yourself what equipment they are using and what they do maybe it’ll help you understand better. Proud to have served retired firefighter shirt What he is knocking is the lug on the hydrant cap to loosen it so to make it easier for him to open it. But i could be wrong

Warriors that only holds the keyboards and hide behind the screen. When faced real actions like this, what you do? 1st to run! And take video but never do anything to help. There is a hydrant set in all firefighting vehicle. We were taught to use the ‘hydrant key’ (which is a heavy pole we use to turn the water valve with) to hit the tabs on the hydrant caps. Unfortunately there are fire hydrants which are never opened after it was painted and due to the paint and debris in the screw thread there is much resistance to overcome before the hydrant cap budges. Proud to have served retired firefighter shirt That firefighter did everything according to what he was trained to do. Its the design of the hydrant caps that gets really tight to open (if its not ‘recently’ open) therefore the repeated hitting before it opens. In some other countries the hydrants uses a simpler design but i guess this old school one is much more cost effective and requires less

I sell fire fighting equipment for a living, I can confirm whatever Eezart Sidek said is true. Because the hydrant caps are not often used, so it gets stuck, you have to knock it before using the tool. Just like how you shake ketchup before using it. the fire hydrant cap seem to be seized…the fireman nid to knock it few times..It supposed to be open freely by hand.I suggest the SCDF nid to go round island to inspect the tightness of the cap. I think fire hydrant ‘technology’ should be updated a bit from the 1920s. Why not have a device that can be controlled remotely from a centralised location to release the water?
Or if not, something simple that can only be accessed by firefighters- like a numberlock or something? Looking around, I think our police force, fire brigade and civil defence forces need an urgent upgrade of skill and equipment. We have been spoilt by spotless situations in the prior 25 to 30 years so there weren’t adequate exposure to real needs. We badly need the manpower number to be expanded and expanded quickly. I like to see more law enforcing policemen and security personnel on our roads instead of parking wardens, which, sadly, has not been in short supply.
