After the government meeting on the evening of January 4 on the state of emergency, a new decree will be issued and valid until January 15. The new ordinance extends the ban on travel between regions until January 15, and at the same time determines the application of restrictive measures corresponding to the infection index of each region, the regions with the RT infection index above. 1.25 will be the red zone, RT at 1 will be the orange zone.

According to the new decree, in the red zones, shops, bars and restaurants must close, except for essential stores such as food and necessities; People are not allowed to go out except for work, health, and emergency reasons.

The new decree also restricts travel on weekends, continues to apply a curfew after 10 p.m., people are not allowed to travel between cities, and restaurants and bars are closed.

After January 7, depending on the region, elementary and middle schools will reopen, and high schools will maintain 50% of online learning from January 11. The Veneto and Friuli Venenzia Giulia regions have decided to maintain remote teaching until January 31.

The new decree was issued in the context of the complicated epidemic situation in Italy. As of January 4, the total number of COVID-19 cases has reached 2,166,244, of which 75,680 deaths. The number of new infections in the day is still high, on January 4 there were 10,800 new cases.
