Following the spirit of “rejuvenating” the classic values of the famous French Haute Couture house Christian Dior, Art Director Kim Jones and guest designer Eli Russell Linnetz – founder of the ERL brand – launched the capsule collection. Indeed, the fashion field has witnessed many collabs in the past few years, but perhaps Kim Jones is one of the few designers who never disappoints fans every season. And this year’s Cruise season is no exception. If Korea is the place where Maria Grazia Chiuri chose to be the destination for the Dior Collection Early Fall 2022, Kim Jones dreams of the graceful, romantic but also extremely youthful and dynamic beauty of Venice Beach (California). This is also the hometown of designer Eli Russell Linnetz.
For the first time embarking on 40 outfits of the Dior Men Spring Summer 2023 capsule collection, the two succeeded in reconciling the spirit of classic French elegance with American bohemian fashion. More specifically, it blends 76-year-old Haute Couture quintessence with California’s strong surf and skate culture. Combining these two fashions may seem like a challenge, but the contrast becomes the perfect complement for the “California Couture” designs.
The 40 outfits in this collection bring a fresher vision of modern men’s tailor-made fashion. Blazer models are transformed from the founder’s famous “New Look” Bar jacket into stylish casual wear for men. Still the details are tight waist, powerful padded shoulders, but these blazer designs are cleverly integrated by Kim Jones and Eli Russell Linnetz with accents of a stronger Sporty style.
From here, men can temporarily “store away” the patterned western shoes and move towards colorful chunky sneakers inspired by skateboarding shoes. Not stopping there, the knitted shirts with the words “California Couture”, basketball shorts, and cotton tops are also the most notable highlights of the collection.
Besides the previously mentioned sneakers, the fashion accessories included in the Dior x ERL collection also received a lot of attention from fashionistas. Hats were launched as diverse as bucket hats, baseball caps, knitted hats with fancy two horns shape. Some hat designs are also dotted with veil details in different colors.
Meanwhile, miniature handbags are worn between the chest, on the neck or at the waist. Dior’s iconic bag styles “makeover” thanks to ERL’s signature colorful and sparkling color schemes. Along with the costumes, the fashion accessories of the BST have aroused the exciting atmosphere of the return of the holiday season.
