In a film and photo series, actress Nana Komatsu in the movie-inspired scene “ Who are you, Polly Maggoo ?” (1966) by director and photographer William Klein, about a young American model living in Paris played by Dorothy McGowan on screen. Camellia first appeared on Chanel clothing in 1923 through the creations of founder Gabrielle Chanel and became one of the most prominent symbols of the fashion house. Later, Karl Lagerfeld made them the main focus of his designs for 36 years. The most memorable must be his wedding dress embroidered with 4,000 camellia flowers from his Fall 2005 Haute Couture collection.
The camellia image has always been present in Chanel’s seasonal collections and has now become the main inspiration for the Fall-Winter 2023 designs. Artistic director Virginie Viard has placed the collection on a catwalk in black colors. dominated only for the light to follow the runway with the giant white camellia in the center.
