Tommy Henry, a left-handed rookie, has been a nice addition to the rotation despite getting pummelling in his most recent start. Ian Kennedy, a seasoned reliever, appreciates how Henry “attacks the strike zone.” Kennedy also stated that “He’s pretty polished.
As Young Diamondbacks Produce, Youth Movement Shows Positive Signs
He attended college, as you can tell. The college males are typically a little more polished when they first leave. Although it is not an overwhelming fastball, it is misleading. He uses a lot of strikes because he can tell how men will react to him. I enjoy seeing him since he always seems to be in a relatively tranquil state.
Merrill Kelly has observed “a lot of positive things” in Henry as well. He cited a crucial scene from Henry’s Cleveland premiere. “It goes without saying that you’ll be a little excited about your debut. I could tell the engines were spinning very hard throughout the first couple of innings.
And I also recall that he may have gone off the rubber in the fourth inning or perhaps took a breath, and then when he stepped back on the rubber, for some reason, that just stood out to me. Okay, his feet are on the ground, I reasoned. He has been pitching incredibly well since that time.
He knows exactly what he wants to do in the world. He’s not simply out there throwing, in my opinion. He has a strategy. He often has a plan in mind for what he wants to do to the men. I’ve been impressed thus far. Gallen stated that Henry was “very comfortable” as soon as he arrived.
Naturally, the initial start didn’t go as planned, but after that, he recovered very well. Galen mentioned that Henry has pitched well in Coors Field and has faced some “difficult lineups.” In the end, he maintained his composure, didn’t attempt to do too much, and simply made pitches.
Being able to settle in as soon as possible is one of the more impressive things when you’re a young guy. It may take a few games, or it may take a full year. whatever it may be. However, he appears to be conducting himself fairly nicely there. Watching has been enjoyable.
Carson The “poise and command of all his pitches” please Kelly. He continued, “It seems like every outing he gets a little bit more at ease and doesn’t have the look of a deer in headlights. Maybe a tiny amount in his first start, but not even that much, you don’t see that from him.
He will continue to develop and learn thanks to his experience and the things he brings to the table. Another shining example has been 25-year-old Kyle Nelson. He only has a year of service experience and has already exceeded rookie restrictions in 2021. But this seems inconceivable when you observe Nelson and the way he conducts himself.
McCarthy grinned, “The guy’s a flatline. His heart is beating (holds his hand parallel to the ground). “Whenever he is on the mound or when you speak to him, he is always very serious. He has an amazing capacity to maintain on an even keel for a young man.
He wasn’t at all worried even the other night (against the Brewers) when he wasn’t finding his locations. I believe he was simply off-target. So I enjoy defending him behind him. McCarthy grinned wider when informed that Torey Lovullo believed Nelson was “amped up” in his first game back after injury and added, “I wouldn’t even be sure what amped up means for him.”
Mantiply makes similar findings. “His ability to regulate his emotions and sense of humor; he claims to have the league’s lowest heart rate. Even when things appear to be accelerating, he maintains his composure and keeps things under control. It’s incredibly special for someone his age—still he’s quite young—to have that skill.
Kennedy enjoys being around “Nelly,” who is himself a cheery and fun-loving individual. “He’s great to hang out with,” he remarked. Pretty relaxed and even-keeled. In terms of baseball, he has a really mature perspective. He absorbs the knowledge and uses it in the game.
You are aware of his strong consistency. Nothing is going to bother him on the mound, judging by his calm. Nelson is “probably a little more mature than a lot of guys his age,” he continued. Nelson has some of the finest middle-relief stats in the National League did not surprise Kennedy.
He throws a fastball with carrying. It emerges fairly firmly. He throws a lot of strikes and has a great slider. Mantiply said Nelson possesses a “wipeout” slider and a “very nice heater,” so he wasn’t surprised either. Kennedy has taken pleasure in following the young Diamondbacks.
When there are young players there, there is typically only one that adds a little spark or vitality because they are younger and happy to be there. Additionally, they wish to send a message. However, we have three. You always have three players who can go there.
The same is true of Varsho. Rojas is continuing to perform. You have other males who are doing the same thing, and it is contagious. Being able to observe some of the men, like Stone, has been enjoyable. Typically, it takes some time for guys to start contributing, at least at the plate, or collecting their first hits.
Watching Alek play the outfield in that first game was enjoyable for Stone. McCarthy is impressive to watch run and to watch make things happen on the basepaths. Rojas was also recognized by Ramirez, who emphasized his influence on the young Diamondbacks.
Josh is the most influential among the younger men. He is really shrewd in the field and displays a lot of baseball knowledge. The other guys are starting to notice it, in my opinion. Perdomo believes in him fairly strongly. Sergio Alcantara is very skilled with the glove and excellent on the field.
