NFL's first Comeback Sunday since years occurs in Week 2

Call it the NFL’s first Comeback Sunday in a long time. While the Jets came back from a 13-point disadvantage in the final two minutes, the Dolphins and Cardinals created history by overturning 20-point deficits at the half to win on the same day.

Two further teams nearly joined the group.

The Los Angeles Rams defeated the Atlanta Falcons 31-27 after Jalen Ramsey intercepted Marcus Mariota’s throw intended for Bryan Edwards in the end zone. The Falcons had rallied from a third-quarter deficit of 28-3 (which is a typical score in Atlanta).

Joe Burrow assisted the Cincinnati Bengals in overturning a 17-3 halftime deficit at Dallas, but as time expired, Brett Maher converted a 50-yard field goal to give the Cowboys a 20-17 victory, dropping the defending AFC champions to 0-2 overall.

Close games and bizarre finishes are a recurring trend two weeks into the season. The league will benefit greatly from it since it will encourage fans who have no interest in fantasy football or gambling to watch the entire game.

12 games have already been decided by three points or less, which is a record for an NFL season’s opening two weeks.

Through Week 2, eight teams have come back from deficits of at least 10 points to win or draw, which is the second-most after the 1987 campaign, when nine teams did so.

The performance by Tua Tagovailoa was very amazing. He completed six touchdown passes to help Miami defeat Baltimore 42-38 after falling behind Lamar Jackson and the Ravens 35-14 at halftime.

Coach Mike McDaniel of the Dolphins stated of Tagovailoa, “We basically had to play perfect complementary football to come back from a deficit like that, and this is a really good team so I couldn’t be happier with him, and his teammates know.” “I think he learned something about himself, and his teammates learned a lot about him.”

With a minimum of six starts, Tagovailoa rose to 8-1 against Super Bowl-winning head coaches, the highest victory % in league history.

For at least another week, his detractors ought to keep quiet.

When the team met, Tagovailoa said, “Mike told us this is going to be a great opportunity for us to know that if we do ever get down against these guys, we know that you’re not looking to put your head down.” We’ll always play one play at a time and remain in the game. Mike will also remark on this repeatedly. Similar to our team’s mentality, which views hardship as an opportunity, is this. That’s how we played, too.

Arizona was behind 20-0 at the half in Las Vegas, but Kyler Murray put on a tremendous performance of his own to help Arizona fight back. On the game’s final play of regulation, Murray came in from the three and produced a flawless throw through traffic into a little window for the two-point convert to force OT.

The Cardinals defeated the Raiders 29-23 after Byron Murphy Jr. returned Hunter Renfrow’s fumble 59 yards for a score.

Kliff Kingsbury, the coach of the Cardinals, stated there were “so many make-or-break plays, I lost count, where we had to have this stop, had to have this 2-point conversion, had to score, had to have this fourth down, and guys just kept fighting.” “No one flinched. Hey, we have to settle in and do what we do, was the message at halftime. The effort was fantastic, but we played about as poorly as we could in the first half and didn’t play well in the second.

Before the Dolphins and Cardinals did it on the same day on Sunday, no team in NFL history had ever overcome a 20-point hole at the half to win. Since Week 4 of the 2011 season, two teams had not come back from a deficit of at least 20 points in a game to win in the same week.

The Browns should be the angriest of the three teams that wasted significant leads. If Nick Chubb hadn’t rushed into the end zone for his third touchdown with 1:55 left, they would have prevailed. Cleveland now led 30-17, but the extra point was not made.

The Jets managed an unlikely victory thanks to two touchdown passes from Joe Flacco in a 60-second span sandwiched around a successful onside kick recovery. Before the Browns blew it, teams had won 2,229 straight games when they had a lead of at least 13 points in the last two minutes.

“On a Hail Mary, I have won. I failed a Hail Mary and lost. Robert Saleh, the Jets’ coach, stated, “I have won in a game with seconds left. I’ve seen it everything at this point in my life, so I’m not surprised by what the league has to offer, but the rollercoaster never stops.

For the second time in league history, three teams overcame a fourth-quarter deficit of at least 13 points to win on the same day thanks to the three comebacks by the Dolphins, Cardinals, and Jets—all of which took place on the road.

You can anticipate seeing a lot more comebacks given the way this season has started.
