The reason why is because when you keep adding more socialism to your society the basic functions start to slow down then fail.

We have seen this happen multiple times around the world all have eventually lead to totalitarian states and blood baths. So if people are a little iffy about adding bigger government to fix problems you should forgive them for their doubts.
