Our son was just two years old when we adopted and brought him home from another country. I was eligible for the FMLA but not any paid short term disability. We were not in a position that we could afford the unpaid time- most of our savings had already gone to the adoption process and travels. I’m not even sure why this is a discussion. 12 weeks leave is covered for adoption. No employer is required to pay for 12 weeks of FMLA for any reason-adopting, giving birth, cancer, surgery, serious illness, etc. So, time off for adoption is already available. Celebrity time off like Hode is a totally different subject. When you are paid millions of $$$ you can take as much time as you want.
