my own family is also full of amazing stories of strength and resilience. My grandfather was the son of poor, illiterate farmers in Burkina Faso, and was also orphaned very young. His uncle sent him off to the Catholic missionaries because he couldn’t feed an extra mouth. My grandfather didn’t give up, he seized the opportunity to get an education and became a medical doctor and well respected member of his community. Vintage legends are born in july shirt The thing I admire most is that through the years he took on several kids in his home in the capital city, and raised them together with his own to ensure they got the chance to an education… Including cousins from that uncle’s side (funny how that worked out!)
I was in Burkina Faso for ten weeks last year volunteering. I met some of the most inspiring, determined and passionate people who I know will go on to do great things for their country. I hope I can visit again some day! I had the privilege of serving in the Peace corps in Burkina Faso. Married a Burkinabé and we now have our daughter! I hope to share the same stories of determination and resilience with her from her family! i used to work in a middle school where a deaf boy was studying, he’d been adopted by a family there the year before, Charlemagne is his name. I’ve never seen anyone who’s gone thru so much have such a good attitude, and he as only 13.
