We’re not self-entitled. We’re literate and knowledgeable and can read the statement calling us colored and infer that it’s racism. Literate and knowledgeable people can simply look at an image dating back as EARLY as the civil rights era and see that the term “colored” was specifically tied to African-Americans. Are you so self-entitled as to think that you could use the term without someone letting you know that you sounded ignorant?! And that’s the thing here in Singapore. We know we make lots of racist jokes (Google if you don’t know who are the people who make up Singapore). sometimes we laugh at those jokes, sometimes we don’t. But at the end of the day, if a person from a different race needs our help, you bet most of us would not hesitate a second to go the extra mile. Are the jokes we make racist? Hell yes. Are we racist? Nope.
