We were all created the way we are so as to have our ‘different identities’. We are only different in how we see others, treat others and love others. Who’s to blame here? What’s acceptable? Racism still appears to be culturally ingrained, but we are at least more overtly polite toward each other. Goes to show that we need more friends that are different than us. The more friends we have that are different, the more our overt politeness will result in an actual transformation of our view on people and race. I saw it at home and picked it up; I still remember how upsetting some of the emotions it produced made me feel.
I worked with 65 men ( at least 55 white males) as the only Black female, while they never said anything to my face ( well a couple did), we’d have lunch, drinks after work, even BBQ’s on holidays. I’d still hear the stereotypical racists/ misogynist comments using the N word, they would call me a whore, a slut or Lesbian, though my relationships were strictly business and professional. You can eat BBQ, lunch and have drinks while still maintaining professionalism. Yes, that’s actually a description of explicit racism since it involves conscious control (as depicted by the two-faced behavior). But I definitely agree we see this with misogyny among other behaviors and attitudes.
