I was a young adult when diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer, an agressive form. My mom reacted like I expected her to react, travelling 2 hours to be with me during treatments and making me food so that I would eat. She said I carried you outside my womb and I’m there for you in this. Those were such powerful words, Retro rotary phone dial on graphic shirt that I couldn’t give up on my harsh chemo, not on her. She’s been through so much for surviving as a single mother that giving up wasn’t an option.
She was so stressed and so sad, and I felt kind of guilty because no parent ever should see their child go through chemo…it’s really a near death experience, and knowing that so many kids go through with a better attitude than some adults, makes this thing so cruel. I have so much love for those superheroes of mine, kids with cancer are stronger than me, they’ve taught me how to smile at the little things.
