I was diagnosed with the HPV virus at 22 after having an abnormal smear was told I had pre cancerous cells. After biopsies colposcopies and loop treatment which burnt the cells I finally had HPV typing to see if my strain was of this virus was one that would lead to cervical cancer and No one fights alone cancer awareness shirt at such a young age my brilliant consultant thought this was a must. Thankfully it wasn’t and I eventually had a normal smear without abnormalities. Condoms don’t prevent HPV as. Can be passed by contact alone. The injection given to girls nowadays is a must and Cervical smears are a neccessaty .
I ‘d rather have 5 mins of awkwardness during a smear any day over cancer you can always go to a different doctor for a second opinion it’s your health after all. The virus can lay dormant for years and goes by itself as mine did but ref your lumps etc go and see someone else for peace of mind. If your smears are ok then that should put your mind at rest. Smoking if you smoke has a key part to play in depleting vit c which affects women’s cervix’s etc my consultant was brilliant I had my 1st smear at 18 had both my kids by 24 .had a smear abnormal so had a hysterectomy but they left the cervix n ovaries cos I was so young but 2 yrs later another bad smear the removed my cervix another major op my girl was 5 my boy 2.5 yrs old had to have a smear every yr for 5 yrs .
