The passenger shouldn’t have to help, regardless of their hearing status. It is the restaraunt’s obligation to accommodate for disability. Even restaraunts that typically prohibit window orders for have to assist to the best of their ability according to the ADA. However, many places still refuse to help and it is absolutely a form of discrimination (especially when combined with his mocking gestures) that needs to change. Causing a scene is how change happens. My guess is, it’s not the first time she’s been treated poorly here and has decided to put her foot down and stand up for herself. They do this all over the place, keep fishing till someone bites and they have a lawsuit on their hands.
