Our role as parents are an important and vital part to help them, guide them and direct them to become the person they hope to achieve. They need us to become as their backbones to strengthen them and uplift them when they encounter failures. They need us to lead them to that path because there will be bumps and errors before they can finally get there.
We definitely have to avoid making our kids extensions of ourselves, but setting reasonable boundaries and expectations helps them feel safe and secure and prepares them for an often unaccepting world. I feel like I have done this…my son is 25 and I don’t know how to love him they way he needs. He is struggling with pills and I won’t help him as far as living with me or financially. I feel like a horrible person but I don’t see change in his habit when I give a little. I wish I knew how to let my guard down so I could love him the way he needs and not my way.
