was stationed in Germany for 8 years I learned the language lived off base and miss my German friends very much! Traveled around Germany and I never had a problem. However it is also that – when we talk about “cultural ignorance” and yet – being German and trying to be proud of other cultural backgrounds is not very wellcomed here. It is more expected to identify with the German culture and isolate from your own culture. Also e.g. if a black person is looking for a partner it is not really appreciated if the person is not with a white German and rather with a person of another country. And if – you will have to point out how good this person is adapting to the German ideals.
