Cancer treatment has improved so much, especially with certain kinds of cancer, that patients often can have a reasonable expectation of survival. Attitude of the patient and family is key to their cure. No one can survive with poor expectations. Just a thought to consider: some battles really are un-winnable (think 300 Greeks vs 1 million Persians at Thermopolis), and nobody thinks less of those 300 for not winning.
