It’s been firmly established that Benson and Barba are just good friends. I watch the the new and the reruns. I really enjoy the episodes with Christopher Meloni and I liked the ones with Amaro and Dobbs. I have wanted for a long time for them to bring Stabler back but at this point now to bring him back in the current story lines and try to make his character full time wouldn’t really work. What I think would be great is for Benson and Stabler go out to lunch and catch up but Benson gets paged out or called out and looks at him and says Are you ready to come back or do you miss it yet? And he would just grin or smile the way he does and says nah not yet and hey Benson be careful out there. That would be enough for me on bringing Stabler back
