Kim Young Jin, Kim Wook and Park Min Hee are the names that define the style for a series of K-pop groups. They are also the ones who indirectly spread the most prominent fashion trends to young people.
3 key stylists behind the brilliant aura of blackpink and bts
Any star of the Korean entertainment industry cannot shine alone. Around them is an “ecosystem” to ensure that every element from the song, choreography to the visuals is always perfect. In which, a stylist with good taste and foresight is an indispensable member.
The client list of the coordi mentioned in this article includes CL, BTS, SHINee, BLACKPINK , aespa and Beenzino. There are certain differences between a simple stylist and a stylist for idols. Relationships are also the most important factor to lead to success. Let’s find out more about this position through the sharing of stylish “witches”.
If you’ve been replaying the Pink Venom MV continuously these days, you’re also “streaming” Park Min Hee’s work. She dreamed of becoming a stylist since middle school and majored in fashion design when she entered college. BLACKPINK is the first partner in Min Hee’s career. The two sides seem to have found a common voice in fashion and for the past 5 years, she has been accompanied by four ambassadors.
Before embarking on a project, Park Min Hee looks up a lot of references. She does not limit her choices to famous designers or high-end fashion houses. Instead, she always updates and connects with younger, more unique and unexpected brands. Blumarine and Fancì Club are two of Min Hee’s favorite brands.
Park Min Hee explores each person’s charms and listens to the styles that idols want to pursue. Then, “present” those ideas through the fashion mix. Perhaps that’s why each member of BLACKPINK has their own unique style. Jisoo is very “Lady Dior”, Jennie is always called “Living Chanel”, Rosé portrays all the essence of Saint Laurent and Lisa is paired with Celine .
As part of the team behind a series of MVs including SHINee’s Don’t Call Me , Taemin’s Advice and Key’s Bad Love , Kim Wook has the ability to skillfully mix trends like streetwear, grunge , PVC suits and balaclavas. Wook’s fashion sense helped him win the “Stylist of the Year” award at the 11th Gaon Chart Music Awards. Kim Wook always tries to help the audience see the broader aesthetic picture, beyond beyond tastes. He aspires to produce the best results as a stylist before every subject.
After being discharged from the army, Kim Wook began working as a stylist for Show Me the Money 2 ‘s Swings , and soon rose to become the main stylist for the group EXO. He collaborated with artists from both Big 4 but most from SM such as aespa, Kai, SHINee, EXO, SuperM, etc.
Newlyweds Kim Wook and Park Min Hee together created unique mixes in the show. BLACKPINK’s hit Kill This Love was inspired by Lara Croft. Among international brands, Wook is also interested in a Vietnamese brand called La Lune, “their design is very personal and therefore attractive.”
Kim Young Jin saved her pocket money to buy fashion magazines from her childhood days. He was suggested by friends to try his hand at stylist right after graduating with a major in photography. Before taking on the role of main stylist for BTS, he entered the profession as an assistant stylist and understood the overall system of the Korean fashion scene.
BTS’s My Universe project in collaboration with Coldplay and the recent Yet To Come MV both featured costumes sketched by Young Jin. In addition to BTS, he also collaborated with NCT 127, Super M, and Kang Daniel for magazine covers, music ads, and fashion.
Young Jin has a special passion for aesthetics from Japan. He often mixes & matches designs by Comme des Garçons and Yohji Yamamoto . He always combines the latest fashion trends with classic pieces. For example, Levi’s denim can be “friended” with sneakers and a signature blazer from Saint Laurent. According to Young Jin, in terms of men’s clothing, details are very important. The overall outfit is often influenced by details such as length and sleeves.
